We're nuts about NUTS...Nuts is a general term for the large, oily seeds or fruits of some plants. While lots of dried seeds and fruits are frequently referred to as nuts, only a certain number of them are considered to be TRUE nuts. All nuts are seeds, but not all seeds are nuts; nuts are both the seed and the fruit and can't be separated. Because of their high oil content, nuts are a great source of energy (although they should be eaten sparingly due to this high fat content). They can be used in cooking, eaten raw or roasted for a snack. The oil from nuts can be used in both cooking and cosmetics. Nuts are also a major food source for a variety of wildlife. It's okay to go nuts for nuts, but keep in mind that nuts are among the most common food allergies.
